Treat Attention Deficit Disorder Naturally
(ADD and ADHD)
It is believed that attention deficit disorder may be caused by a lack of magnesium, potassium, and other trace minerals or perhaps the inability to sort these minerals. It is important to make sure that the person who has ADD or ADHD is getting, and is able to absorb these necessary minerals. Researchers believe that essential oils move to the limbic system of the brain; therefore, can assist with ADD and ADHD. Inhale oils twice a day and significant results can occur in 60 days. The oils to use include Cedarwood, lavender, Sandalwood, cardamon, peppermint and frankincense.

Ways to use these oils
 

Inhalation::
Using a diffuser, diffuse for half an hour and do this about 4 to 8 times per day. You can also put a few drops in a humidifier when the air in your house is dry.

Put two drops of your desired oil in your hands and rub them together. Place the hands of your nose and inhale throughout the day as needed.

Put two drops of oil on a gauze, tissue or cotton ball and put it in an air vent in your house for work office.

Topical Application 
Apply 1 to 2 drops of your selected oil on the neck, brainstem and on the head.

Massage 2 to 4 drops of oil on the soles of feet right before bedtime. You may use this method on children as well.

Place one drop under the nose. 

Ingestion
Put 2 to 3 drops of the oil of your choice with a spoonful of honey, yogurt, agave or other food or beverage.

Abrasions
Abrasions can be painful due to the injury of nerve endings. Use these oils to increase healing: lavender or tea tree. 

Abscesses
An abscess is a puss filled cavity caused by bacteria. If you get frequent abscesses be sure to seek a healthcare practitioner because you may have a weakened immune system. 

Use these oils or tinctures to relieve pain and help in the healing process of abscesses: clove, tea tree, lavender, and/or chamomile.

Allergies
There are many things that cause different types of allergies and allergic reactions. Many conditions such as hayfever, headaches and migraines, sore throat, ear infection, runny nose, hyperactivity are now considered to be related to allergies. Allergic reactions are often worse when stress and anxiety exist.

Oils that are helpful for alleviating allergies can purify the air, increase relaxation and decrease or eliminate  viruses and bacteria. Back Pain
Back pain can be caused by many different factors. Please seek the advice of a medical professional if your pain persists. Tinctures and essential oils that can help relieve back pain include: anise, Basil, cloves, eucalyptus, ginger, geranium, lavender, nutmeg, peppermint, Rosemary and Arnica. 

Oils can be used in a warm bath, massage and directly rubbed on to area of pain.

Bad Breath 
Problems with your teeth are usually the cause of bad breath there for a dental check up is highly recommended. Other causes of bad breath our stomach upsets and not enough gastric acid. Be sure to brush properly and to floss daily.

A sensual oils that will help with bad breath include: cardamon, clove, lavender, lemon, myrrh, peppermint, tea tree, germ killer blend and thyme. You can make a mouthwash from a blend of these a sensual oils. Also some of these oils can be diluted and rubbed on to the gums and tongue. Be sure to work with a professional consultant on how to dilute and mix for your specific needs.

Bites and Stings 

Keep a bottle of these oil's on hand when doing outdoor activities as they are very helpful and soothing in relieving insect bites and stings: lavender, chamomile, lemon, tea tree and sage. 

Black Eye

Use chamomile and lavender oil's mixed with water and put in one ice cube. Stir until the ice cube is melted in the oils are completely mixed. Using a soft cloth apply this compress of over the bruise. Repeat this process when the cloth is no longer cold.

Bleeding, Minor External 

Make a cool compress using these oil's geranium, lemon and rose.

Bronchitis
Be sure to seek the attention of a medical professional regarding bronchitis. It is an acute or chronic inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes.

Oils can be used in a diffuser, sprays, inhaler, massage, and a warm bath. Essential oils that help with bronchitis include: balsam, cedar wood, eucalyptus, frankincense, lavandin, lemon, marjoram, temperament, Rose, rosemary, and germ killer blend.

Black Eye

To treat a black eye, you should use chamomile and lavender. Combine these oils with an ice cube and gently apply over the injured area. It's very important to not get any of this mixture into your eyes so be sure to close them while applying.

 

Minor External Bleeding

You should use geranium, lemon, yarrow, and rose oil. Add drops of these oils into water and apply as a compress.

 

Blisters

Apply lavender and tea tree oil to cotton balls and pat the blister(s) gently.

 

High Blood Pressure

A massage with marjoram, mandarin, geranium, and lavender oil can help with high blood pressure because it allows you to relax and relieve stress. However, high blood pressure is a very serious matter and you should consult your doctor.

 

Low Blood Pressure

Exercising can help people raise their blood pressure. Having low blood pressure can cause fatigue and dizziness. You can also use clary sage, rosemary, black pepper, and peppermint essential oils in a massage to help with low blood pressure.

 

Boils and Carbuncles

Boils and carbuncles are staphylococcal infections that cause collections of pus in the skin. Adding some lavender or tea tree oil can help with boils. Some other oils that can help are bay laurel, chamomile, lemon, and thyme.

 

Bad Breath

You should see a dentist because bad teeth are usually the cause of bad breath. However, upset stomachs and gastric acids can also but the cause of it. Essential oils such as lavender, myrrh, peppermint, tea tree, and thyme can help you if you have bad breath.

 

Bronchitis

Bronchitis is when the lining of the bronchial tubes is inflamed. You must be very careful when treating this. You should combine eucalyptus, cedarwood and peppermint essential oils to create a chest blend. You can use this mixture for baths, massages, air spray, or you can simply inhale it.

 

Bruises

For topical application, use sweet almond oil and geranium or lavender. Mix well and apply directly to bruised area. You can apply it hourly until the bruise no longer hurts.

 

Bunions

A bunion is when the largest joint of the big toe is swollen and either thickens or deforms. Chafing caused by shoes can create pain and discomfort. Make a massage blend by using chamomile, carrot seed, and calendula essential oils. Use this mix to gently massage the whole foot, paying attention

especially to the bunion.

 

Burns & Minor Scalds

Use essential oils to create a topical treatment or a mixture for compress. You can use oils such as bergamot, chamomile, geranium, helichrysum, lavender, and rosemary. Lavender essential oil works most effectively on burns.

 

Bursitis

Bursitis is joint pain (usually elbow, shoulder, or knee). It causes the skin to swell and feel hot. Use grapeseed, St. John's wort, rosemary, eucalyptus, chamomile, and juniper essential oil to create a massage blend. Use this on the problem area three times a day. You could also use cypress, clary sage,

Cancer

Although it wouldn't be legal or right to claim that something cures cancer. However, there are many ways to relieve some off the pain, strengthen and support the immune system, and help with some of the side effects. It's important to let your doctor know that you'd like to use some natural alternative treatments. You should make a blend of cedarwood, lavender, and bergamot oil to use either for massages, inhaling, or in baths.

Candidiasis

Candidiasis is when too much of a harmless fungus in the body, candida albicans, grows and causes health problems. It is most commonly found in the vagina but sometimes can be found in the mouth. Men don't usually show symptoms but can still transmit it. You should use manuka, lavender, and tea tree oil for treatment.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Many middle-aged or pregnant women, people who use the computer frequently, and people who have arthritis suffer from carpel tunnel syndrome. The best way to treat this is to make a massage blend using chamomile and grapeseed essential oils. Massage the problem areas 4 to 6 times a day.

Cellulite

Cellulite can be caused by allergies, hormones, toxicity, and lymphatic drainage. Aromatherapy is an essential part of cellulite treatment. Using a blend of rosemary, fennel, juniper, grapefruit, and geranium can create a great mixture for massaging. You can also use this blend for dry brushing or in a bath.

Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is caused when nerve cells in the brain don't function which results in not having coordination and having muscle spasms. For muscle spasms, use a blend of cypress, marjoram, ginger, lavender, and eucalyptus. Massage the oils into limbs and back once or twice a day. This mixture can be stored for up to 12 months. For muscle weakness, combine grapeseed, St. John's wort, basil, ginger, and rosemary. Use the same way you would use the muscular spasm blend.

Cervical Dysplasia

Cervical dysplasia is a condition in the cervix. It can be treated with lavender or tea tree oil if detected in its early stages.

 

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

People who suffer from this condition are constantly tired. Nobody is completely sure what causes this but it can be triggered from immune reactions, post-viral infection, toxins from the environment, and more. The symptoms of chronic fatigue can last for at least half a year, but sometimes much longer. To treat this, you must improve your overall health and strengthen your immune system. With bergamot, grapefruit, and cedarwood essential oil you can make a blend that wills serve as a “spirit lifter”. You can use this mixture as a spray, in a bath, or for a massage.

 

Circulation

Circulation can be improved greatly by being physically active such as walking, biking, or swimming. You can also use lemon, rosemary, and black pepper essential oils to help treat your circulation problem. Use this mixture as a massage blend on a daily basis.

 

Common Cold

Spreading germs and sickness can be as easy as shaking someone's hand or touching a door handle. Mix lavender, lemon, tea tree, and yarrow oil together to make an anti-infection blend. Use this as a spray or hand sanitizer. There are tons of other mixtures you can make to help treat coughs, congestion, cold prevention, and respiratory infections.

 

Cold Sores/Herpes

There are many different types of herpes. Herpes simplex 1 is what causes blisters and cold sores on the lips. Herpes simplex 2 is spread through sexual activity with a person who's infected. It causes sores near the genitals, buttocks, and anus. Shingles, or herpes zoster is a rash on the skin and similar to chicken pox. To treat herpes simplex 1, use tea tree, bergamot, eucalyptus, and St. John's to apply topically. For herpes simplex 2, blend bergamot, eucalyptus, melissa, manuka, and sandalwood essential oil to apply directly onto the infected area. For shingles, use bergamot, eucalyptus, tea tree, and melissa oil to create a mixture or spraying in the air or on the body.

Conjuctivitis

Combine chamomile or rose hydrolat with water and soak a cloth in the mixture. Then, place cloth over closed eyes for 10 minutes.

Convalescence

To speed up the recovery process after being sick or after a serious injury, use aromatherapy. Create a “pick-me-up” blend using grapefruit, lavender, rosemary, lemon, and thyme essential oil.

Corns

Use birch bud or calendula-infused oil to apply directly or to use as a foot soak. Repeat daily until all dead skin has been removed.

Coughs

To treat a cough, you must focus on loosening and getting rid of mucus. Create an inhalation blend using marjoram, benzoin, and helichrysum oil. You can use this mixture as an air spray or inhaler. You can also make a blend for massages with eucalyptus, cedarwood, pine, and myrtle essential oil.

Cradle Cap

For babies older than 3 months old, combine cedarwood and sweet almond oil and gently massage mixture into baby's scalp. Repeat as often as needed.

Cramp

Cramps are caused by muscle contractions and usually happen in the legs or feet. It's important to massage the cramp out using a mixture of geranium, rosemary, marjoram, and black pepper oil.

 

Cuts & Wounds

For minor cuts and wounds, wash them using a mixture of lavender and tea tree oil.

 

Cystic Fibrosis

This hereditary disease causes digestion and respiratory problems because the lungs produce too much mucus. Essential oils can make a huge improvement in people who suffer from this disease. Use lavender, chamomile, tea tree, and rosemary oil to create a blend to inhale, use for a massage, or in a bath.

 

Cystitis

Cystitis is a bacterial infection in the urinary tract that causes the bladder to become inflamed. People who suffer from cystitis may feel the constant need to pee, may experience a burning sensation when urinating, or urine that contains blood or pus. Use juniper, sandalwood, chamomile, and eucalyptus to create a blend to use in the bath or as a hot compress.

 

 

Dandruff

People who suffer from dandruff have dry scalps which cause white flakes to fall. Dandruff is a type of eczema and can cause the scalp to itch or hurt. There are many things you can do to help with this discomfort. First, you should eat lots of vegetables and fruit and take C-complex vitamin everyday. You could also use distilled water, baking soda, and rosemary to make an exfoliating dandruff treatment. Dandruff shampoo is another option and you can make this using liquid castile soap, distilled water, coconut oil, and bergamot or tea tree.


Debility (Physical)

The best way to treat this is to make a massage and bath oil blend using geranium, rosemary, and peppermint. You can use this blend in a bath, massage, or for a foot/hand soak.

Depression

If you're finding it hard to laugh, have no motivation, and aren't getting any sleep you should consider aromatherapy. The best way to deal with stress or depression is with an aromatic bath. To make an essential oil stress blend you can use basil, bergamot, black pepper, fennel, lemon, Spanish marjoram, peppermint, and rosemary. You can also make a spray, roll-on, or a mixture for inhalation.


Dermatitis

Dermatitis is very similar to eczema. This condition when the skin is inflamed usually caused by frequent contact with cleaners, chemicals, and alcohol. However, it can also be caused by stress. The best way to treat this is by mixing bergamot, cedarwood, chamomile, cypress, geranium, juniper, and lavender.

Deodorants

For basic underarm deodorant can be made with zinc oxide powder, witch hazel hydrolat, aloe vera juice, and rose geranium essential oil. You could as make a fresh-as-a-daisy body spray with vegetable glycerin, cider vinegar, witch hazel, bergamot, rosewood, patchouli, and lavender essential oils.

Constipation

To treat this, you should do a massage on the abdominal with black pepper, fennel, ginger, grapefruit, mandarin, marjoram, bitter orange, peppermint, rosemary, ct. cineole, and spearmint.


Diarrhea

There are many different treatments for diarrhea depending on what it was caused by. If your diarrhea was caused by something you ate, you should mix grapeseed, chamomile, marjoram, and ginger essential oils. If your diarrhea was caused by a virus, you should make a massage oil from grapeseed, niaouli, lavender, and lemon. If your problem started from stress, you should mix together grapeseed, chamomile, geranium, and lavender.

Diverticulitis

Diverticulitis causes cramps, constipation, abdominal pain, and other kinds of discomfort. This condition is caused by a lack of fiber in a diet. A massage with chamomile, peppermint, rosemary, and marjoram can help with the discomfort. You could also use this blend in a bath or as a hot compress.

Dog Bites 

Make a paste combining four drops of essential oils such as lavender or tea tree, half teaspoon of unpasteurized honey and 1/2 Cup water. Stir this mixture well and using a washcloth wash the bite area with this mixture even if there is no broken skin. Then using a cotton ball or swab put a tiny bit of on diluted tea tree oil on the area. Use a dressing to cover if necessary. Seek medical attention for more treatment if the skin is broken. 


Dysentery

This is a disease caused by drinking or eating contaminated food or water. It's usually transported by physical contact and flies. You should go see a doctor to help treat this disease but you can use essential oils to help prevent spreading. Use bergamot, cinnamon, ginger, lavender, and thyme as a spray, in a bath, or for a massage.


Earache

Earaches are very serious and can spread to the center of the ear. You can treat mild or simple ear infections with olive oil, basil, cajuput, chamomile, eucalyptus radiata, lavender, rosemary, and tea tree.


Edema

Fluid retention causes the tissues to swell. This condition may be serious and result in kidney or heart problems. However, if your edema isn't severe, it may be caused by too much sitting, standing, or flying. It could also be caused by PMS or sprains. You should use milk, fennel, pine, cypress or lemon essential oil.


Emphysema

Emphysema can cause you to be out of breath. People who suffer from this condition should exercise regularly, do breathing exercises, and avoid smoking. You can treat this by making a massage blend with cedarwood, eucalyptus, and thyme essential oils.  

Exhaustion

If you are physically exhausted, use geranium, eucalyptus, and spearmint to make a blend to use for a massage, spray, inhalant, or in a bath. If you're suffering from nervous exhaustion, mix clary sage, frankincense, and peppermint essential oil.

 

Fainting

Inhale the aroma of marjoram, peppermint, or lavender. You could also massage lavender into your temples.

 

Feet

If your feet are aching, make a foot & leg gel with aloe vera and peppermint oil. You could also make a foot lotion to help soothe them . Use unscented lotion, rosemary, thyme, black pepper, grapefruit, and lavender essential oils.

Athlete's Foot

Fungus that can be found in gymnasiums or locker room floors is what causes athlete's foot. The skin skin itches and is flaky. To treat this, fill a tub big enough for your feet to fit with warm water. Add tea tree, lavender, and liquid honey essential oil and soak feet for 10 minutes. You can also blend cornstarch, cypress, tea tree, rosemary, and lavender oil to create an oil foot powder.

 

Fibromyalgia

This condition is caused by too many cells are growing in the fibrous white tissue and results in irritation and inflammation. Make a blend for compress with rosemary, lavender, and marjoram. Another option is making a blend to use in a bath with juniper, cypress, black pepper, and grapeseed essential oil.

First Aid

Everyone has accidents and gets injured sometimes. It's important to know how to treat these injuries because it could potentially save a life! For minor injuries, you should make a basic healing blend by using beeswax prills, anhydrous lanolin, thyme, grapeseed, lavender, rosemary, and tea tree essential oils. Another great essential oil for healing wounds is calendula oil. It's great for treating cuts, sores, ulcers, sprains, inflammation, pain, and chicken pox spots. If you want to treat bruises, fractures, or ulcers, you should use comfrey essential oil.

Fungal Infections

For an infection such as pruritus (or itching), you should use witch hazel, liquid honey, lavender, and nialouli essential oil for either a bath or to clean the infected area with a cotton ball. Another option is to blend lavender, grapeseed, chamomile, and bay laurel to help stop the itching.

German Measles

German measles, or rubella, is a disease that causes swollen glands, rashes, and fevers. Although the symptoms only last a few days, you should take action and treat it so it doesn't spread. Use essential oils such as chamomile, lavender, and tea tree. You could use these oils in a bath, in a lotion, or spray for the skin.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis is usually caused by not brushing your teeth well enough and the build up of plaque. You should visit your dentist. You could also make a gingivitis mouthwash with glycerin, thyme, peppermint, myrrh and rose oils. Diluted clove oil or cinnamon oil make healthy washes and rinses.  Gargling and rinsing several times a day with these can do wonders.

Glandular Fever

Glandular fever is also known as mononucleosis and usually affects young adults. This illness causes symptoms that can make you feel tired and lethargic similar to chronic fatigue syndrome. To treat this, you could blend bergamot, grapefruit, and sandalwood essential oils to create a blendthat is uplifting and energetic. 

Gout

When uric acid builds up in the body, it turns into crystals around the joints and usually around the big toes. Symptoms of this condition include inflammation and swelling. Mix together chamomile, cajuput, and peppermint essential oil to use in a footbath or for a massage

Hangover

The hangover feeling is because the body is trying to remove the toxins from the alcohol. If you know you're going to be drinking, eat a couple slices of dry bread before going out. You should also try to drink plenty of water because alcohol causes dehydration. To treat a hangover, you should take a bath and add some milk, juniper, rosemary, and juniper. Detox with lavender oil or peppermint oil. Make sure the essential oils are diluted with a carrier oil.

Heartburn

Treat this using cedarwood, lemon, peppermint, sandalwood, or chamomile. Another option is ingesting peppermint and liquid honey.


Indigestion

You can treat this by ingesting lemon or ginger with liquid honey. You could also make a massage blend with grapeseed, rosemary, chamomile, and marjoram.


Intestinal Gas

Gas can get stuck in the intestines and cause pain and bloating. To treat this, use grapeseed, chamomile, and peppermint to use for a massage on the abdominal.

Jock Itch

Jock is similar to athlete's foot except in the groin area. This is usually caused by wearing underwear that is too tight which doesn't allow sweat to evaporate and allows fungus to grow. To treat this, you should use tea tree, grapeseed, and lavender and massage the irritated area 2 to 3 times each day. You could also wash the area with essential oils soap, lavender essential oil, and distilled water.


Sciatica
This pain is at the sciatic nerve and can also be felt along the hip joint, down the back and in the buttocks. Be sure to visit a medical professional or a chiropractor to find the cause of your pain. Usually sitting for long hours, poor sitting posture, or pressure on a disk causes sciatica. 

Teachers that will help with sciatica pain include: anise, chamomile, lavender, marjoram, peppermint, rosemary, Sandalwood, Arnica and thyme. Treatments include using the oils in a warm bath or a massage. 

Spider Bites 

Make a topical solution by mixing five drops of lavender essential oil and 1 teaspoon of vinegar. Apply with a cotton ball over the affected area every hour. If you think the spider was poisonous seek medical attention immediately. Apply the lavender and vinegar until medical help arrives.

Babies and Children

Most tinctures and essential oils are too powerful for newborn babies and the use should be limited until they are three months old. However if diluted properly some essential oils can be used. These include Roman chamomile, lavender and Mandarin.

For children ages three months to five years old some essential oils that are excellent include clove, eucalyptus, frankincense, geranium, ginger, lemon, orange, sweet marjoram, sweet orange, Sandalwood, tea tree, thyme and ylang ylang. These must be properly prepared and diluted. Children with special needs always be sure to seek the care of a medical professional for the various special needs of children. Essential oils which will help a child relax, focus and reduce hyperactivity and anxiety include: FRANKINCENSE, LAVENDER, ROSE, SANDALWOOD, SWEET MARJORAM, YLANG YLANG AND PATCHOULI.  For children five years and above all oils are considered safe. But they must be used in smaller amounts compared to adults. Oil blends for babies are perfect for massages, calming infants, diaper rash, colds, colic and more. 

Colds and Cough 

Eucalyptus, lavender, lemon and tea tree oils are excellent for treating cough and colds. The oils can be administered via a massage or by diffusing and vaporizing.

Colic

If your baby has colic, use lavender, chamomile, mandarin and/or ginger. Massages with one or a blend of all these oils will help the baby calm down and unwind.

Diaper Rash 

Chamomile, lavender and tea tree oils are perfect for treating diaper rash. Lotions, powder and a wash can be created with these oil's to relieve and prevent diaper rash.

Insect Bites 

A paste can be made to treat baby after insect bites. Use lavender essential oil, baking soda and distilled or filtered water to make this paste.

Teething

Tinctures of chamomile, clove or sweet almond oil can be used to ease the pain of teething. Be sure that clove is properly diluted specifically for baby's use

Toddlers and Older Children

Chicken Pox

This viral disease is very infectious. It starts with a fever and then's body red rashes that appear as insect bites. The itchy spots will blister immensely.

Make a special oils bland just for treating the itchiness of chicken pox. Use baking soda, geranium, lavender and Roman chamomile essential oils to make this blend. You can then use it as a lotion, as a spray by adding distilled or filtered water, and in a bath to treat the itching of chicken pox. 

Coughs and Colds

Oils that are good in treating cough and colds include Bergamot, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, rosemary, tea tree and thyme. Use them in a vaporizer, a bath and/or a massage.

Croup 

This is a very strong, loud and barking cough which usually involves shortness of breath or breathing difficulties. Oils to use for croup include eucalyptus, sweet marjoram, rose and thyme. These oils help to fight the infection and calm the child. Use them as a massage or in a vaporizer.

Cuts and Abrasions 

Cuts and abrasions need to be washed. You can make an antiseptic wash with lavender or tea tree oil.

Diaper Rash 

Chamomile, lavender and tea tree oils are perfect for treating diaper rash. Lotions, powder and a wash can be created with these oil's to relieve and prevent diaper rash.

Fever 
Children usually have very high fevers. A fever is the body's way of responding to an infection. They are part of the healing process but if they get too high and remain high for quite some time then there are chances of developing more problems. The use of teachers of ginger, chamomile, lavender and lemon will help promote sweating which will manage the fever. These oils can be used in a lukewarm bath or a cool compress to relieve the high fever.

Insomnia
Be sure to find the reason why the child is having problems sleeping. Use these sensual oils to help with insomnia: chamomile, geranium, lavender and mandarin. They can be used as a spray, in a bath and for a massage. Be sure to get specific instructions from a consultant for the proper dilution, mixing and use for your child.

Lumbago
This painful condition happens in the lower back and is caused by muscle strain or a slipped disk. Essential oils can be used in a warm bath, cool compress, or massage. These oils include: peppermint, Arnica, lavender, ginger, Rosemary and marjoram. 

Overexcitement
